Lily Watson is the main character of Solace. She is very outgoing and as such tends to make friends easily. However, she is far from perfect. She is young and often times naïve. At the beginning of the series, she struggles with adjusting to her new life after her family moves. Because the story follows Lily and her experiences, her parents are sometimes shown as indifferent, though they are in reality good parents. Lily also has two siblings, a younger brother and baby sister. She experiences occasional jealousy towards her sister, Emily, who mirrors Lily’s image when she was little. Most of Lily’s animosity, however, is aimed at her brother, Maxwell. His favorite pastime is teasing Lily, which her extreme clumsiness does not help.

George Watson is Lily’s father. He receives a job offer in a new city, which is why the family moves at the beginning of the story. George does not notice Lily’s struggles as much as her mother does. He does work very hard at providing for his family, although he is sometimes shown as weak and is a bit of a coward.

Alexandria Watson is Lily’s mother. She is a strong individual who cares greatly about the welfare of her family. Her personality contrasts that of her husband, George, who tends to be less serious. She is tough and tries to be positive for her kids, but often times seeks the guidance of her mother.

Maxwell Watson is the younger brother of Lily. He always has a good sense of humor, although sometimes he can overdo it. Max and Lily are always getting on each other’s nerves.

Emily Watson is the youngest daughter of the Watson family. She is a very cheerful child that loves to play. She finds enjoyment in occasionally wandering off on her own to explore, much to her mother’s chagrin. She also has an uncanny ability to tune out the frequent fights of her two other siblings.

Stella Watson is more commonly known as Grandma Watson. She resides in a large farm house located in the open country land on the outskirts of town. The house has been quiet since her husband died, but now that her daughter has moved her family into town, things are looking up for Grandma Watson.
